Privacy
Yapmax is an app for practicing speaking another language. This page explains what it keeps and who else handles your data.
Using Yapmax without an account
- Your conversations aren't saved on our server.
- A cookie and a one-way scrambled version of your network address count how much you use each day, so the free limit works.
- Your settings and a few choices are kept in your own browser.
If you sign in with Google
- We ask Google only for your email and an account ID. We never see your password.
- Your account ID is stored with your saved chats, saved words, corrections, memories and settings, including what you said and what your friend in the app replied.
- Memories are short notes about you, like a hobby or a pet, that OpenAI picks out of your saved chats so your friend in the app can bring them up later. Each character keeps its own. You can see and forget them on the Memory page.
- Your email is kept only in a sign-in cookie in your browser, not in our database. It's used to show you which account you're using.
Who else handles your data
- OpenAI receives your microphone audio while you record, your conversation text, and any interests you enter, to transcribe you and write replies. When your friend looks something up for you, OpenAI searches the web with a short query based on what you asked.
- Fish Audio receives the text your friend in the app says, to create her voice.
- Cloudflare hosts Yapmax and its database, and runs the check that you're human.
- Google handles sign-in if you choose it.
The microphone is only on while you're recording.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Saved chats, saved words, corrections, memories and settings stay until you delete them.
- To delete them all, sign in and choose Delete my data in Settings. This can't be undone.
- Daily usage counts are deleted automatically after 90 days. They stay after you delete your data, so the daily limit still works.
